Memories from The Class of 1962
I remember:
|
1962 graduation class produced
lots of all star champions. Basketball at its best as Dub Malaise and his Dad, Coach
Malaise took us to State. Then we had Coach Hayden Fry who went on to be the head coach of
Iowa State for a hundred years. My favorite memory was when our speech class went to the
dress rehearsal of the first play performed at the "Brand New" Old Globe
theater. There we saw Dan Blocker play God in Green Pastures. He made all us
"young-uns" feel really special. And of course, all those nights making the
circle around Tommy's Drive in. We had some very special teachers that I have never
forgotten. Mr. Bice, I finally got Shakespeare and have become a writer myself. Ms Gentry,
I am writing the story of my own family history, and I still vote in every election as you
insisted we must do. Mr. Vasbinder, I learned to appreciate government even though it is
run by "politicians". A very wise Indian Holy Man taught me, as you did, that
the most important Government is your own community. Mrs. Taliferro: I am sorry
about Geometry Class.... I still don't get it!
|
I remember Mrs. Gentry's
wonderful history classes...the escapades at the back of the bus on choir trips...the
submarine races in the sandhills, and the unforgettable parties at 'Kunute's' house.
