I have fond memories of 1968
when several of us guys in the band decided we should do something very special for
homecoming. Our band director, Bill Dean, had contacts with the band director in Andrews,
who just happened to have several hundred 3 minute red and white flares. I drove to
Andrews and bought them from him, then we had Rosco draw a Broncho on two sheets of
plywood, painted the Broncho, then fixed a sign for the other end zone for the homecoming
queen's name, which we did not know until two hours before the game. That is what started
a tradition. A flaming Broncho in one end zone and the queen's name in the other. Our
claim to fame....
